Name of Book: Daily Rituals: How Artists Work

Year Published: 2013

Words by: Mason Currey

What is the main topic of the book?:  Have you ever wondered how other creatives did life? Well, Mason Currey did too, and so he compiled a comprehensive list of the daily rituals of 161 writers, playwrights, film makers, scientists, poets, artists, etc. From Jackson Pollock to Agatha Christie to Georgia O’Keeffe to Nikola Tesla to Charles Darwin, we hear about the importance of daily walks, quirky ways of clearing one’s mind, and how to live a disciplined, creative life.

Strengths: This book is super insightful and strangely encouraging – spoiler alert: it mostly just takes hard work and dedication.

Quote: Franz Kafka says “Time is short, my strength is limited, the office is a horror, the apartment is noisy, and if a pleasant, straightforward life is not possible then one must try to wriggle through by subtle maneuvers.”

Rating: 10/10!
